Project 1.3 : Nanna Thaiboonruang

Project 1.3
Proliferate

Nanna Thaiboonruang

TJU Transportation Hub

Tianjin University or TJU, located in Tianjin, China, is one of the most air polluted cities in China due to the population density. 'Transloc', a company that connects private and public transportation together to make public transportation easier to access which would reduce the number of private vehicle, which at the same time reduce air pollution. TJU in collaboration with Transloc, propose the 'TJU Transportation hub' as another transit point for people to experience nearby the bus stop.

The second company, WaterQuest HydroResources, also get in collaboration with TJU and TransLoc. What the company do is they drill the mineral water or hot spring water from underground for the contractor. The mineral water they drill is a high quality self-recharging aquifer. WaterQuest in collaboration of TJU Transportation Hub, used its hot spring water to provide this new experience of waiting point for public or private transportation.

The component of TJU Transportation Hub is the Charcoal filter panel that was experimented and developed for the use to clean the air in TJU which has a high rate of air pollution.

Due to the property of charcoal filter panel, the panels needs to be replaced from time to time, by that, the replacement process is related to the design of each building unit in the project. Also, the process of reusing and recycling is taken in concern.

The design of each unit of hot spring derived from the idea of fragmentation to create the maximum area of panel surface to trap the polluted air and idea of replacement in which the panels need to be assemble and disassembled easily.

The connection of a transportation hub and a hot spring is through 'time'. Where the frequency of the bus time schedule is related to the recommended cycle for user in the hot spring. From that, the users could manage their time properly.

After the unit, the program planning in site was developed in a larger scale.

PROJECT 1.2 - EVOLVE - NANNA THAIBOONRUANG

PROJECT 1
EVOLVE

Phase 2 : Material Memes
Material Research
By revisiting the output of the selected 2 candidates, first, the WaterQuest HydroResources, a company that drill underground water well, its output is underground alkaline water. Second, TransLoc is a company that join public and private transportation together, the selected element is the pollution, as a resultant of the company for its aim to make public transportation the first choice for people rather than private vehicles. The output of both companies have resulted in a higher quality resources in the community, cleaner water and reduction of air pollution.
Charcoal, as a material, has a properties to filter and purify both water and air. The experiment of charcoal focused on its properties to result in a better quality of air and water, separately.

Physical model

Architectural Components
The produced components focus on giving the community a higher quality resources, air and water, and combined with the material experiment in transforming charcoal. The context combined the two distinct components in one context, linking the quality of air and water together in the community.

PROJECT 1.1: BRAND GENETICS - NANNA THAIBOONRUANG

Project 1
Brand Genetics

Phase 1 : Select
Analysis as a learning method
Research and define the genes, norms and memes of the selected 3 candidates.

WATERQUEST HYDRORESOURCES
Identity

WaterQuest HydroResources is a water well drilling company that drills for their contractor. The company emphasises on drilling for self-recharging and self-replenishing water sources for sustainability. They act as a discoverer and distributor of natural fresh water that could be used as drinking water or in business such as spa and resort.

Material

The chosen material is underground water. The water extracted from underground are thermal and mineral water. The plate extracts the uses of the 2 kinds of water and the benefits that influence people to take advantage of.

TRANSLOC
Identity

TransLoc is a company that work with public transportation agencies to track the bus by GPS. The user could check the arrival and departure time of the bus by using the TransLoc application available on smartphone. The company aims to make public transportation easier to access, and creates a flow transition throughout the journey. Most of the agencies they incorporate with is university around the United States, so the plate extracted Boston, as a city that consists of many universities, and looked into how the different transportations were connected.

Material

The main goal of TransLoc is to make public transportation the first choice for all. The material then became the problem in the community which the company is resolving along with its business, the pollution. The plate shows a comparison of public and private transportation and how pollution affects the environment.

THE HOME DEPOT
Identity

The Home Depot is an American home supplies retailing store. A one of the largest home supply store, it is a warehouse construction building. The plate represents the identity of a warehouse store and its distribution system on how their products are shipped from place to place.

Material

By focusing on how the products are distributed to the customer, each transportation required packing process. So, the material of The Home Depot is the packing algorithm. The products are packed in a standard box sizes and the space has to be managed to be able to fit the certain amount.

CONTEXT

The context plate combines the 3 companies by creating a story where all the company happened in the same environment, Boston University, which was extracted from TransLos's plate into details. The plate represents a story of a college student traveling to university using TransLoc, packing and shipping stuffs, and testing water quality in laboratory.
