Branding
- Farm Lab -
Developing from SPACE10, as an extension to the original 4 Labs ( Digital Fabrication, Natural Interface, Shared Living and Food Lab), combining that to the idea of a living architectonic material from the Green Biz by Komatsu Seiren and the collective intelligence system by CivicWise. I'd like to introduce the company to the new Farm Lab where a botanical garden is created to serve the intention of developing and redefining the mindset people has for farming. Every one aims to find a material that best suit the purpose of growing food at home while also living a busy life. This medium that is fully organic but does not need to be taken care of.
Content
- Components of the Lab -
Containing several programs above and under ground. The whole Lab aims to be greatly public so there are no fence. The whole area of the space serves a fully functional Lab, self-sufficient restaurant , gallery, farm and botanical garden. The Farm Lab is meant to have a timeline cycle , not being built at once but slowly starting from one space to another as if the lab itself is "growing" and "decaying".
Site
- Malta -
The site I've chosen is the island under Italy, Malta. Malta was chosen because of three main ideas; first being the hot and dry climate it has in addition to the country being an island which means limited resources, this supports the idea of the Lab developing a material that will allow people to grow crops in any climate whatsoever. Secondly, the capital of Malta, Valetta, has a very small percentage of green space in terms of their urban and therefore we'd like to get local people to be more involved with nature and more aware of the eco-living life style. Last, Malta is currently a very popular tourist attraction. We aim to use this benefit to get most variety of people to be involved in the Lab as possible.
Plan
- Zoning -
The Botanical Garden itself splits into 4 main areas, the fruit farm, plant farm, vegetable farm and the restaurant. The farms are where people experiment with the types of vegetation that will be suitable to their type of growing medium. In addition to that, we have the restaurant area where it acts a s a main spot for tourist attraction, the ingredients used in the menus will be from the farms they grow.
Section
- Definition of Private and Public Space -
Everywhere is public, however, there are underground space and above ground space. The buildings submerged from the underground will help with not only reaching natural light source, but also connecting all the spaces together.
Elevation
- The Boundary of the Lab and the Outside -
I've chosen the height of the space to define the importance of space hierarchy. The lower grounds are less important and the higher ones are more important. Because I've chosen to not use any fence, I chose to lift the whole space up to define a clear entrance.
