PROJECT 1.2 : MATERIAL MEMES


PHASE 2 : EVOLVE

FROM THE PREVIOUS PHASE, THE MATERIALS WERE SELECTED FROM THE PREVIOUS PHASE/BRAND THROUGH THE EXPERIMENT INTO ARCHITECTURAL COMPONENTS FOR DESIGN DEVELOPMENT IN THE FOLLOWING PROJECT.



THE MAIN CONCEPT IS "THE SOUND" AMD THE MATERIALS WHICH CAN BE TRANSLATED TO 'TRANSMISSION' , 'ABSORPTION' AND 'REFLECTION' AS A RELATIONSHIP OF THE RAW MATERIAL REACT TO THE SOUND WAVE. IN EVERY SOUND WAVE HAS THE MOLECULE OR ENERGY INSIDE ALONG THE WAVE. AS THE WAVE TRAVELS TROUGH THE MEDIUM AND HITS THE OBJECT, THE SOUND ENERGY WILL BOUNCE AT THAT SPACE UNTIL LOSS ITS ALL ENERGY. AS EACH DIFFERENT MATERIAL HAS ITS OWN PROPERTY WHICH GIVES DIFFERENT RESULT;

TWO OF THE SELECTED MATERIALS ARE THE REPRESENTATION OF THE PROPERTIES:

CONCRETE : AS IT HAS VERY DENSE MASS AND SMOOTH SURFACE, IT GIVES MORE TRANSMITTION AND REFLECTION BUT LESS ABSORPTION. 

FOAM : FAOM HAS LESS DENSITY TO BE COMPARE WITH THE CONCRETE AND MORE ROUGH SURFACE AS ITSELF MAKE FOAM REALLY GOOD AT ABSORBING THE SOUND BUT LESS REFLECTION AND TRANSMISSION.



FROM THE TYPES AND PROPERTIES OF BOTH MATERIALS CAN BE ADAPTABLE INTO DIFFERENT COMPONENTS BY COMBING OF TWO MATERIALS AND THE DESIGNING THE SURFACE FOR MORE ADVANTAGE OF THE LACKING PROPERTIES. FOR EXAMPLE, CONCRETE HAS MORE REFLECTION OF THE SOUND BUT LESS ABSORPTION AND TRANSMISSION. THE ADDITION OF THE HOLES GIVE MORE SPACE OF THE SOUND WAVE TO BOUNCE TO LOSE THEIR ENERGY FOR ABSORBING THE SOUND. EVENTUALLY THE VARIETIES OF THE DIFFERENT COMBINATION WILL GIVE MORE PROPERTIES AND PROVIDE FOR ANY COMPONENTS; FLOOR, WALLS AND CELING FOR THE ENCLOSED SPACE.

'VIBRATION' IS ANOTHER ACTION AND THE ORIGIN OF THE SOUND, WHERE THE SOUND HAS CREATED.  THE 'CYMATIC' IS THE PATTERN OF ART APPEARS FROM THE SPECTRUM OF FRQUENCIES OF BASS SOUND. WHICH IT CAN BE APPEAR BY USING THE NATURAL ELEMENTS FOR EXPERIMENT SUCH AS CHLADNI'S PLATE WHICH MAKE THE SAND OR OBJECTS VIBRATE THROUGH THE FREQUENCIES THAT APPLY TO.



FROM THE EXPERIMENT, THE FREQUENCY WAVE MAKE THE OBJECTS VIBRATE EVEN THE SMALL PARTICLES TO THE LARGER SCALE OR OBJECT. THE VIBRATION OF THE SOUND WAVE COULD BE APPLY TO 'FACADE' FOR THE ARCHITECTURAL COMPONENT. TO CREATE THE VARIETY OF PATTERNS FROM THE VIBRATION OF THE DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES AND ALSO WITH THE EFFECT OF THE NATURAL ELEMENTS; AS THE WIND BLOW OR THE OTHER SOUND WAVE EFFECT FROM THE ENVIRONMENT SURROUNDINGS.



AS THE SOUND CREATES BY THE VIBRATION OF ANY OBJECTS, THE SURROUNDINGS ARE MATTER. FROM THE EXPERIMENT OF PROPERTIES OF THE MATERIALS TO THE SOUND AND THE CREATION OF THE VIBRATION COULD COMBINE TOGETHER WITH THE VIBRATE FACADE AS ONE COMPONENT FOR EACH PURPOSE. THE SET OF ENVIRONMENT SURROUNDINGS ARE ANOTHER KEY FACTORS TO BE CONSIDER OF. FOR THE CROWDED CITIES, THE ABSORBING SOUND OF SPACE MIGHT BE USEFUL FOR THIS CASE. IN THE WOODS, VERY QUIET AND THE NATURAL SOUND, THE MATERIAL WHICH HAS A REFLECTION PROPERTY MIGHT BE THE SELECTION. ON THE MOUNTAIN WITH THE HIGHER OF GROUND LEVEL AND LARGE OPEN SPACE MIGHT USE THE MATERIAL FOR TRANSMISSION OF THE SOUND. AND THE LAST LOCATION BY THE LONG NARROW RIVER.
