KANCHAPORN KIEATKHAJORNRIT : PROLIFERATE: CONTEMPORARY BUSINESS FUTURES

Proliferate: Contemporary Business Futures

Develop your chosen brand to produce an architectural
the proposal which positions business/brand against
future private/public space. Define the enterprise
genetically, materially and contextually.

In this last phase of the project, combining all ideas and concept from study case in phase one, as well as the material and experiment from phase two, to become the new brand,
'By-cycle' a company selling electric bicycle service and providing social space for users in the community in order to complete a better version of urban lifestyle cycle by biking bicycle.

The brand mission is to encourage people not only to save the limited energy and resources but also to generate energy back to the society, this brand is designed for everyone, every age, not only for local people but also tourists.

The brand is separated into two parts, Co-Cycle, the headquarter and Rest-Cycle, the substation. Co-Cycle is the centre of the network located on the river in form of a bridge. Apart from providing convenience to bikers, Co-Cycle serves co-working space where people can find inspiration, share ideas, in green. Rest-Cycle is the rest area as a network of the station for all bikers located around the city in order to provide all users need for example; seats, bicycle parking, beverages, air pump, bike chain repair kits, etc.

As Bangkok is the capital of Thailand which has been confronting with
transportation, green space and pollution issues for so long, hence, the idea of
By-Cycle station network around the city will solve all these problems.

The mapping diagram shows, network of location for each station, the route for bicycle and the spreading of project throughout time.

As the station needs to cover all area of Bangkok, which consisted of different typography, different size of space and different form, the idea of adaptation of the mechanic is used in the design to allow system to be placed anywhere perfectly fit.

The first mechanic is the idea of modular working as the jigsaw, each element can fit together and form in various of shape. Hanging system is used in all design as this system will help to reduce the space touching the floor, also this new design will hang, connect to the existing structure to blend in with the environment of the city. Another mechanic is developed from the previous experiment, the use of fabric and motor to create the rhythm in the change of space as the fabric acts as the boundary. The energy that used for the motor to work is from generating from the movement fabric and bicycle.

Plan and elevation of the co-cycle which is the contain many programs such as a park, exercise space, working space and etc.

Here are the examples of the rest cycle which took place around the city, each of them has different functions and different sizes, however, they all sharing the same system.
Between the shophouse can be a small working area for users, the social space for people to interact. Under the highway, can be the place for the user to have fun with a bicycle riding, extreme ride. Or even very small space under the overpass and next to the electric pole  can also be the small station for a liltle stop and park the bicycle.

KANCHAPORN KIEATKHAJORNRIT : EVOLVE MATERIAL MEMES

MATERIAL MEMES
In order to embrace the nature of the pluripotent relevance the meme as a design tool; materials, components and brand trajectories should be derived from a combination of candidates’ source material in an effort to create “a nexus of complex relationships” related to brands and the materials that make them.

In this second phase, material as the main element to create the starting point for the experiment and the design for the next phase. I decided to continue working with all three brands that I had chosen from the previous phase, Gogoro, King and Komatsu Seiren. I used the keywords that I already analyzed which are

Komatsu Seiren -  Fabric, variety, condition and layers
Kings – Interaction, challenge, network and time
And Gogoro -  Movement, transfer and energy

My objective of doing the experiment is to show the energy transfer visually in term of form by using the interaction between technology and fabric in various way.

For the first experiment, I started with exploring the properties of each type of fabric by using different energy to act on it, elastic potential energy, kinetic energy, gravitational energy, chemical energy, heat energy and sound energy.

Second experiment, after gaining some idea of the properties of fabric, I started to combine another element to the experiment, which is the rotating motor that can spin the fabric. From this experiment, the use of motor mechanic allows the movement and rhythm generate on the fabric. This is when the electrical energy transfer to the fabric and generate different motion and form. Not only electrical energy that generate energy for fabric, but the fabric its self can also create the energy from the movement.

My third experiment is playing with the new device, which now can control the movement of the fabric by adjusting the speed of the motor. The device consists of nine motors positioned in grid-like, each of the motors has its own speed controller, which mean the speed can be control individually. Apart from that, there is the switch and transformation located on the plate. To use this device, placing fabric on top of the motor and use the magnetic to connect motor and fabric together.
I experiment with six different way of arrangement the magnet with twelve different types of fabric. Each of the fabric has different performance when it's rotating especially some of the fabric has the ability to stretch, elastic property.

the video shows the result and comparison of each type of fabric

table showing results for all solution and all types of fabric

From the experiment, I use the idea of movement and form that created to develop further in the component design, the first one is the ‘kinetic façade’, using the element from the experiments the starting point to develop the
component, kinetic facade inspired by the movement of the fabric. the movement of the facade creates electricity and control by the system. However, motion of the facade that generate from wind can also produce energy to use in the space as some types of fabric has elasticity property allow the stretch to occur, when the fabric stretch, it creates the bigger hole in the pattern, which allow light to pass in, as well as become more transparent.

The second idea is the movable partition, partition acts as a boundary between space, that creates zoning and function,
public and private space can be defined. Using the idea from the experiment when a piece of fabric stretches to its limit it creates the straight line between area, and define the space.

And the last one is the furniture that inspired from the shape of the fabric when it spins. Not only the furniture and It can also be the structure of the building.

Combining the component ideas and links back to the brand and keywords, creating different possible activities and applications that can happen. For example, the façade of Go station, that can generate energy from the movement of façade, and using that energy convert into electrical energy to charge the scooter, the moveable maze, as a public space for people to interact, at the same time as having fun of the unexpected moving partition or even the clothing that can generate energy while moving and etc.
