Project 1.2

Apart from the other two companies, Tough Mudder is quite different, yet still containg the idea of creating a whole. Instead of collecting data to form one big pictures, the company focussing on the cocept of teamwork. In another words, only one individual alone could never accomplish the course.

I have found that yarn contains a similar aspect in terms of creating a whole from parts according to the structure of the material. As you can see in the drawing, the center wire, the smallest part was wrapped around by the wire to form a strand. Then strands wrap around the core to form a yarn.

Wood frame structure with yarn string to define boundaries.

Orbital Insigh and kodak share the similar ideas of collecting data. One in digital way and one in analog. I choose iron powder as a material because of the way they react to magnets represent how small particles form together into one big picture.

So I came up with this device inspired by how the early films were made. A flip book could be an example of how it works. Basically flipbook creates a motion pctures from slightly different single pictures. What is different is, the flipbook works in linear way, but I've also found that if you do it in certain speed, this method also works in circular way. So, in this device I attached the steel rod at the back of a future board, then make a plate that attached a magnet inside. The magnetic force will create the spinning motion as the gravity drag the plate the plate down along the steel rod. The spinning effect will makes te pattern on the plate travel in circle to create a motion picture.

Basically this plate is an explaination of the last plate in phase 1 in more straight forward ways. The picxel and the sring represent the was of collecting in for mation frm small part to form a whole. The satellite and film represent the brand kodak and orbital inside. People hanging from a rope represent Tough mudder and the concept of teamwork.
