Earn Lalipat Sirirat : Phase 2 (Evolve: Material Memes)

Earn Lalipat Sirirat
Phase 2
Carmen Torres

Evolve: Material Memes
through a series of experiments and reproductions,
build a research trajectory on selected candidate materials.
Produce design experiments towards an architectural
component which use material capacity for
design development.

From last time, I explain that in order to make the
company strong, you need TRUST & TRANSPARENCY
in not just the production line but the management as well.
So here, I've looked at both the interior trust built inside the
company and the exterior trust built company to customer.

Glass as Material

The first material I chose glass, directly from the company
"Owen Illinois". In this part, I look through the various level
of transparency. I create 3 types of glass in total, crack, pattern
and colour. Then I analyse the level of transparency for each one.
Glass as Divider

Back to clear glass, I also experiment the idea of layers and
have discovered that If clear glass are put together in many layers,
the object at the back will be blurred. So, is glass
really transparent?

After that, I took the 3 type of glass I've created and try to
put them in layers by different orders and arrangement.
I experiment with light by shining light teach glass plate
and discovered that you would see the one that's been
lighten up the clearest.

Slime as Material

I chose Slime as a material. It is created using glue, water and borax.
I took the idea of Substitutional material from "Just For All".
I tried to find a material which can substitute the texture of egg.
Slimy till hard, like the change in state of egg from raw to cooked.
This can give experience to user.

This material has a fluidity inside of it. I create lots of them,
I vary glue type and the solution used. And discovered that
clear glue is more fluid than latex and the lesser borax the
more stretchy and soft it is.
I add additional material such as rubber and silicon since
it has same texture but it is the hardest and come back to
original shape.

Slime as Facade

Further look at the characteristic of slime.
When stretched, it has this property of being transparent,
and it moves down due to gravity.

With the idea of gravity, I wanted to create an interactive facade
where it would create this experience for customer outside.
Where from far away, you can see the slime flow down through time
But when near, you can press it to create transparency and pattern.

Revisited Context

In this last plate, I added both sides each block to show
the different architectural component.

The left side is inside, where it's the divider, relationship
between company and worker. Company cannot be 100%
transparent. Have secret recipe. However, to create trust
you need to be transparent. So, I have this idea of distraction
instead. The information is there in layers, but light shines
on it and cause distraction.

The right side is the outside, the facade, relationship between
company and customer. This moving facade create interaction between
people outside and company. It create experience for user
using texture and flow. Far- sight. Near- texture/touch
